STEPS OF THE SURROGACY PROCESS

The following step-by-step guide will help you prepare for what awaits you during your surrogacy journey.

Decide whether a replacement is the right choice

The first step in any surrogacy process is to carefully consider whether surrogacy is right for you. Becoming a surrogate mother or father through surrogacy in Kenya can be a long and emotional journey and a huge commitment on both sides.

Like any major decision, couples and individuals considering surrogacy should study surrogacy laws carefully, weigh their pros and cons, and even talk to various surrogacy professionals to really understand whether surrogacy is right for them.

Prepare for Surrogacy

Once a potential surrogate or intended father has decided to participate in surrogacy, they must determine their goals and needs for surrogacy, as well as what type of surrogacy specialist they would like to work with.

First, there are two types of surrogacy to be considered:

traditional. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is also the biological mother of her child. Your egg is fertilized with sperm from the intended father or donor through intrauterine insemination.

Gestational: In gestational surrogacy, the baby is not biologically related to the surrogate mother. Instead, embryos are created through in vitro fertilization using an egg cell from a future mother or donor and sperm from a future father or donor. After the egg is fertilized in the laboratory, the embryo is transferred to a surrogate mother.

Second, there are two types of surrogacy professionals who can complete your surrogacy:

Surrogacy Agency - may provide any or all surrogacy services including recruitment, evaluation, case management, support, counseling, legal services, and more.

Surrogacy Attorney - Required in any surrogacy to carry out legal work, but cannot provide other essential services provided by a surrogacy agency.

Find A Match

One of the most exciting and important steps in the surrogacy process is finding the right surrogacy opportunity with the surrogate mother or intended parents.

If you've already found a surrogacy option, you may only need to work with an attorney who specializes in assisted reproduction law. However, if you have not yet found a surrogacy opportunity, you may need to use the services of a surrogacy search agency. Here's how Match works:

When a prospective surrogate mother or prospective parents begin working with a surrogacy specialist, their surrogacy specialist will help them develop their surrogacy plans. Depending on your surrogacy plans, they will likely create a profile to show you other potential parents or surrogators who are looking for surrogacy.
